Well, the season came to end for our BRAVETTES. It was an amazing season and everyone should be proud of how they played!

We will celebrate the season on Friday November 18 at the Hilton at 6pm!

This is a potluck. Varsity parents are to bring a main dish and JV parents are to bring a dessert or salad.

Try Outs 2011 Information

Well it is that time of the year again. I hope you all have been working out of the summer in preparation for another great year of Bravette Soccer. Tryouts start next Monday Aug. 15th at 7:00 am.

In order to participate you need to have your physical done and all of your paperwork turned into the activities office at FHS. I am not allowed to take any paperwork at the fields.

Remember if you are working you should have your schedule adjusted to you will not miss tryouts as we will not be carrying as many players as we did last year. We are looking to develop players and not just have them sit on the bench during games.

Tryouts will be at the Kidsport complex and we will be doing two a days. The times will be from 7:00-9:00 am and 4:00-5:30 pm.

Also remember that is fair week and I will not tolerate players missing any of the tryouts to go to the fair unless you have to show animals. If that is the case please let me know ASAP so I will know for tryouts.

This week we start our season with two away games. The first is on Thursday at Missoula vs. Hellgate--varsity at 3:30 and JV at 5:30. Directions for their fields can be found here. The second game is on Saturday at Glacier. Varsity is at 11:00am and JV is at 1:00. The Bravettes and Spartans played to a scoreless Western AA draw at Playfair Park.

Sentinel, which outshot the Bravettes 16-8, received four saves from Emily Mason and two from DJ Reinhardt. The Spartans moved to 1-7-1 in the league and overall.

Karli Kusler made nine saves in goal for Flathead, which remained at .500, moving to 3-3-4.

The Flathead Bravettes had their chances, but came up just short.
Flathead had 20 shots on goal, including a couple of oh-so-close breakaways late in the game.
“We were unlucky there at the end,” said Flathead coach Scott Warnell. “When we settled down and passed we played well.”
Playing from behind most of the way, the Bravettes picked up their lone goal at the 78-minute mark when Heidi Windauer took a pass from Chelsea Shuman near the top of the penalty box and scored.
But by then the Bravettes had dug too deep a hole. Big Sky claimed the lead in the first half when midfielder Sierra Smith drove a shot from well outside the penalty box into the upper corner of the net. That was it for the scoring until the 75-minute mark, when Leigh Torceletti got behind the Flathead defense on a breakaway, and beat goal keeper Karli Kusler for the goal.
By then Warnell had already moved sweeper Tess Brenneman up to offense in a last-ditch effort to get the tie, or win.
The Bravettes had a couple of chances, including a breakaway when Windauer had a shot at tying the score. But the Flathead forward never got a clean shot on the play and got up from the scrum in front of the net slowly, holding her arm.
The game ended just moments after Shuman — who has been slowed by the knee she sprained in Flathead’s win over Glacier last week — fired a free kick toward the Big Sky goal. The Bravettes didn’t get a shot off on the play as the referee blew the whistle to end it.

MISSOULA — Flathead and Missoula Hellgate had scoring opportunities, but settled for tie.
“It was a good, hard- fought match,” said Flathead coach Scott Warnell.
“Our defense deserves a lot of credit.”
Warnell’s defense is made up of two freshmen, one sophomore and one senior.
“That group has really stepped up this season,” Warnell said.
Flathead’s goalie tandem of Carli Kusler and Brittnay Earnest provided memorable heroics.
Kusler started at goalie, but in the middle of a play, she went after the ball and was kicked in the head by a Hellgate player. Kusler came out of the game with a sore jaw and a headache for 10 minutes. In the meantime, Earnest replaced her.
Minutes later, Hellgate surged down the field and booted a quick shot, but Earnest dove in the box and saved it.
“(Earnest) had a really nice save,” Warnell said.
Flathead, 3-2-2, plays five more games. Its next match is against Missoula Big Sky at home on Thursday.

Flathead girls rally for 4-3 win over Glacier

It was a tale of two halves as the Flathead and Glacier girls renewed their soccer rivalry Thursday evening. After a first half of offensive fireworks, the Flathead Bravettes rode a solid second-half defensive performance to a 4-3 comeback win.

Flathead’s forward tandem of Heidi Windauer and Kassi Herbert took over the game after intermission. Windauer tied the game at 3-3 when she followed the rebound off a Herbert shot early in the second half.

Herbert then added the game winner with about 15 minutes left when she dribbled in front of the Glacier goal, beat the Wolfpack defense and buried a shot in the corner of the net, just past the outstretched hands of Glacier goalie Kayla Byle.

Flathead’s defense put the clamps on the Wolfpack offense in the second half. But the first half wasn’t exactly a defensive clinic. Windauer opened up the scoring a minute into the game with a breakaway goal that came while many in the large crowd at Legends Stadium were still settling into their seats.
But the Flathead lead didn’t last long. Glacier forward Maddey Frey tied the score with a header off a nice centering pass from Bailey Pisk. Frey then gave Glacier its first lead over Flathead in soccer ever, boys or girls, when she scored off a pass from Madison Ruskit after a wild scramble in front of the Flathead goal.
Flathead evened the score later in the half when Herbert lofted a high shot at the Glacier goal. Byle got a hand on it, but Amryn Aryes was there to sneak the deflection in just past the goal post.
Frey was still one goal short of a first half hat trick. She took care of that with six minutes remaining when she rocketed a shot from well outside the penalty box. Flathead goalie Karli Kusler raced to knock the ball away, but Frey bent the shot past the goalie and it curved just inside the goal post.
Flathead coach Scott Warnell said the Bravettes made adjustments after the half with one goal in mind: finding a way to slow Frey.
“We just marked up a lot tighter (in the second half),” Warnell said. “Maddey is probably the best forward in the state. Our goal in the second half was to shut Maddey down.”
Glacier coach Paul Holmgren said his team is still learning how to make the plays down the stretch needed to win games.
“We panicked a little bit,” Holmgren said. “It was our game to win or lose. We didn’t take care of finishing it up.”

Bravettes Beat Sentinel

If you blinked, you missed it.
Heidi Windauer score twice in less than a minute, breaking open a scoreless tie and leading Flathead to a win.

Windauer’s first goal came five minutes into the second half. The Bravette forward received a pass from Meagan Hash near midfield, juked her defender with a nifty move — kicking the ball to the right of the Sentinel player while racing around her left to control the ball — and then beat the goalie for the goal.
In this case, sibling rivalry paid off. Windauer said she learned the move from her older brother Dan, a former Flathead soccer player.
“It was a move my brother used to use on me,” Windauer said. “I could never stop it.”
Windauer didn’t need any fancy moves on her second strike, which came less than a minute later. Flathead midfielder Chelsea Shuman gained possession of the ball in Bravette territory, then hit Windauer with a near perfect pass up the right side of the field. Windauer beat the Sentinel defense to the ball and buried a shot in the corner of the net on the breakaway.
Flathead came a long way in just three days. The Bravettes were buried by Helena on Saturday, but bounced back with a character-building performance that for the most part pleased their coach.
“We put our passes together a lot better than against Helena,” Flathead coach Scott Warnell said. “But this team is still capable of playing better.”
Flathead’s defense bent — as witnessed by Sentinel’s 17 shots on goal, most coming in the second half after Flathead had claimed the lead — but never broke as goalie Karli Kusler turned in a strong game in the net.
“They had a couple of breakaways but Karli really stepped up and didn’t allow them to get back in the game,” Warnell said.
Flathead’s gutty defensive effort was typified by a critical play midway through the first half. Sentinel drove the ball into the Flathead penalty box on a promising scoring opportunity, but three point-blank shots were turned away.
Hash took one for the team on the first Sentinel shot, blocking an almost certain goal when she put her head in front of the ball and deflected it away from the net. Sentinel got another shot on the rebound, but Kusler knocked in away with a save. Sweeper Tess Brenneman finally cleared the ball from the box, ending the Sentinel’s scoring bid.
Kusler — who had 17 saves — credited Flathead’s team effort for the win.
“We really pulled it together and played as a team, played as a unit,” Kusler said. “They (her defensive teammates) were a wall.”

Bravettes Lose to Helena

A young Flathead girls’ team played Helena tough in the first half, but fell after a barrage of Bengal shots after halftime.
Flathead goalie Karli Kusler kept the Bravettes close with strong play, but defensive breakdowns allowed Helena to pepper the net late in the game with a number of point-blank shots on goal.
Flathead coach Scott Warnell said the Bravettes will need to improve their defensive play for matches against Missoula Sentinel and Glacier this week.
“We need to make sure that our defenders stay goal side,” Warnell said.
Flathead was disorganized on offense as well. While the Bravettes threatened on a handful of early scoring opportunities, their lone goal came late in the game. Amryn Ayres converted a penalty kick after a Helena player was called for a push in the penalty box.
Flathead needs to step up, and the Bravettes’ coach thinks they can.
“We need to start putting passes together, which this team is capable of doing,” Warnell said.

MISSOULA — Flathead scored first, but Missoula Big Sky followed with two goals in the final half for a 2-1 Western AA girls’ soccer victory on Thursday.
Chelsea Shuman scored at 40 minutes, giving Flathead a 1-0 lead at the half. Kassie Hebert assisted on the goal.
Big Sky answered 18 minutes later on a goal by Stephanie Carl to tie it. Sierra Smith then knocked home the game-winner at 78 minutes.

"They outplayed us today,” Flathead coach Scott Warnell said.

“We had a good effort, we just had a problem connecting passes.

“Defensively, we played fairly well,” he continued.

“We only allowed two goals with (Big Sky taking) 19 shots.”

Flathead keeper Karli Kusler had 17 saves.
Flathead could muster just nine shots on goal. Big Sky had five corner kicks to Flathead’s four.

Bravettes Tie Helena Capital

Capital dominated the girls game through possession and finished with a 35-6 edge in shots. But, only 15 of those shots were on goal and Flathead’s freshman keeper, Brittney Ernst, rarely had to work to stop a shot.
“(Capital) had a lot of shots, but only about 10 were quality shots,” Flathead coach Scott Warnell said. “And we had someone covering those shots, putting up some pressure to make them easier to stop.”
The Braves, who were 3-0-1 against the Bruins the past two seasons, won their opener 4-2 over Hellgate and started four freshman and two sophomores Saturday against a senior-led Bruins squad, which made Warnell happy with the final score.
“With how we played and how they played, I’m feeling pretty good to get a tie,” he said.
The Bruins were relatively happy with the result, too.
“It’s disappointing to not get a win, especially with all the shots we took,” senior Jacie Vonada said. “But, we took a lot of shots and that’s something we want to do.
“We’ve got to work our small game to our advantage better, use those short passes better.
Capital coach Rick Thompson said that although the offense didn’t score, the team played a strong game.
“I liked how we played,” Thompson said. “We’re getting a lot better as a team and we can work things as coaches to help turn this kind of game into a win in the future.”

Bravettes Roll in Opener

The Bravettes began their season opener with some question marks, but finished with resounding answers.
Flathead’s mix of fresh faces and veterans was in control most of the way, capping a Western AA victory with three second-half goals.
“I went in knowing this was going to be a good test for us,” Bravettes coach Scott Warnell said. “We’re starting five freshmen and sophomores, so we’re a young team.
“They handled the pressure very well, and Hellgate put a lot of pressure on us.”
Heidi Windauer put Flathead in front just six minutes into the game, scoring off an assist from Talyssa Gardner. Hellgate’s Callie Woody tied the game at 1 just before halftime, but the Bravettes exploded out of the break, regaining the lead on a goal by Amryn Ayres, who was assisted by Chelsea Shuman.
Meagan Hash’s goal off an Ayres assist gave Flathead a 3-1 cushion, and Shuman iced the victory with a last-minute goal after Piper Frame brought the Knights within 3-2 in the 73rd minute.
“They played well and passed right where they needed to pass,” Warnell said of the Bravettes. “The girls were making really good runs right where they needed to be and shot well.
“Everything seemed to click for them today.”
Goalkeepers Carli Kusler and Brittany Earnest had seven saves apiece for Flathead, playing behind a defense that proved its mettle.
“We actually started two freshmen and a sophomore and one senior,” Warnell said. “They played very well together and managed to let only two goals in.
“We’ve got a lot to work on, but I’m pleased with how they started out and came out and played.”
The Bravettes visit Helena Capital on Saturday at 1 p.m.
